DIANA U
OW / MOON
(Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan)
Ow is a project meant to remind us of the people who are saving lives in Bishkek during the pandemic. The artist situates generalized portraits of women from the medical field and volunteer movement in a public space, complementing them with natural landscapes, bringing a sense of peace, majesty and inner strength. She addresses her experiences during her time in quarantine; when walks amongst the trees, hills, sunsets on the backdrop of the city, and all of nature in general became a real treasure, acting as an anaesthetic and soothing the mind, body, and emotions.
Diana U is a researcher, artist, and feminist, developing the practice of #femgraphy. She is a member of the CI art collective (lab_ci). Her work primarily concerns the topic of memory and visual representation in art, the history of art in Kyrgyzstan through the practice of its female artists, contemporary art and feminist activism in post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan. She views exhibitions and art/gallery publication as a research process and artistic medium.
